Mpls Police Aim for “Greatest Law Enforcement Comeback Story in America”

TWIN CITIES— Don’t call it a comeback.

✨Imagine yourself working for a police department found guilty of using ‘dangerous’ excessive force and a pattern of discriminatory policing by the DOJ.✨

The Minneapolis Police Department recently spent $950,000 in federal aid money to revamp its image in an attempt to bolster recruitment and retention. Swipe to see what that money is getting them 👉🏽

The ‘Imagine Yourself’ campaign targets the hiring of new officers and 911 operators and will run on social media, television, YouTube and more.

The city has hired consultants from the firm Accenture and paid them “$950,000 for the campaign, part of a $7 million grant from the federal American Rescue Plan (ARPA) that will be used for recruitment and retention, according to contract documents approved by the City Council last fall,” as originally reported by The Star Tribune.

The MPD has struggled with record low recruitment numbers in the 4 years since the aftermath of the police murder of George Floyd and the Covid-19 pandemic.
