Ireland to Join South Africa in Genocide Case Against Israel

DUBLIN— Ireland will formally join South Africa in its International Court of Justice genocide case against Israel.

On Wednesday, Ireland’s Foreign Minister Micheal Martin announced the country, which has openly supported Palestine for the past several months, would be intervening in South Africa’s open ICJ case.

In January, the ICJ ruled that Israel must refrain from committing acts of genocide against Gaza and the Palestinian people. It is unclear exactly what Ireland’s intervention will look like, but this move is not surprising given the fervency with which Irish leaders and citizens have spoken out against Israel’s attacks on Palestine.

“The taking of hostages. The purposeful withholding of humanitarian assistance to civilians. The targeting of civilians and of civilian infrastructure. The indiscriminate use of explosive weapons in populated areas. The use of civilian objects for military purposes. The collective punishment of an entire population,” Martin stated.

“The list goes on. It has to stop. The view of the international community is clear. Enough is enough.”
