George Floyd Square - Black Power Fist Arises
An outpouring of art surged to the surface of 38th & Chicago, in Minneapolis, MN, after the public execution of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department, in late May of 2020. One of the more visible pieces was a giant wooden Black Power fist that had been placed in the center of the intersection of 38th & Chicago Ave. Enduring the summer, fall, and early winter, the originator of the wooden Black Power fist took down the sculpture. Today, Jan. 18th, 2021, the Black Power Fist has re-arisen in metal form. Here, community members gather to help hold space at George Floyd Square and make sure the sculpture is re-positioned in its rightful place.
