Call To Action Led by Library Patrons Union

An important message and call to action from our friends at the @librarypatronsunion. Please share and call 📞

Repost: In light of a recent event that occurred at Franklin Library, we are asking Hennepin County Residents to call your county commissioners and demand safe access to our public libraries.

On Tuesday, March 25th, a horrifying incident occurred at Franklin Library when security guards used excessive force with an Indigenous patron, inflicting harm and trauma. Many witnessed the patron handcuffed to the fence in pain and had been maced in his eyes by security.

In response, the LPU sent a letter to Hennepin county commissioners with a central concern that there is no single, publicly available, humane policy that governs security and the use of trespass. This is unacceptable as it allows behavior from security to vary widely in practice and leads to many incidents of violent behavior towards library patrons, disproportionately impacting Black and Indigenous people.

Help us take action by calling your county commissioners! See the last slide for a script you can use to call!
